The Common Cold
While there may not yet be a cure for the common cold there is a way to boost your ability to dodge them: Walking. Treadmill desks allow employees to walk the entire day, while they work without sweating.
One study showed a 50% reduction in cold contraction among women who walked for 45 minutes a day, 5 days a week. Treadmill desks allow much greater amounts of walking time during the work day than this.
The women also showed an increase in their body's immune defenses that attack viruses and bacteria by walking 45 minutes a day during a regular work week.
It has been well known that the body's lymphatic system (which cleanses the body and wards off disease) virtually shuts off if we sit for extended periods of time. Treadmill desks active the lymphatic system and stimulate the metabolism to burn fat.
