How Much Should You Walk With a Treadmill Desk?

Having spent a majority of your career chained to a desk, you realize that your health demands that you get up and start walking. Good for you. But how long should you walk and can you really do this?

The good news is that even if you have been as sedentary as the average American most of your life it is never too late to change the health dynamic and improve your life. The key is to start slowly.

Since the average American walks 5,000 steps per day it is important to gradually increase walking levels up to the minimum recommended 10,000 steps (set by the Surgeon General) and beyond. We recommend adding no more than 15 minutes more walking each day initially on the TrekDesk Treadmill Desk

We have users walking all day in a relatively short time however we always recommend a visit to your physician before starting any new exercise program. TrekDesk is no different. TrekDesk user E.B. of Cambridge, MA addressed the transition undertaken from being chair bound to walking with the TrekDesk treadmill desk, "In the beginning I only could walk half an hour without interruptions, now much longer. Every week a bit longer. On average 2 hours, due to other activities at the office I can't stay longer than that."

Remember, even two hours more walking per day can have dramatic health implications, so take it easy as your progress toward your goals.
